A Year of Gratitude – May 7, 2024

I found my gratitude today by spending the day working outside in the sunshine with my mom. We worked hard from early this morning until we had just enough time to grab a quick shower before it was time to make dinner. It was a long day, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

I’m tired and sore tonight. My gardening muscles are out of practice from the long winter. I haven’t needed to lift buckets of gravel or tote full wheelbarrows of heavy soil in a few months. My arms are reminding me of that tonight.

But this is the best sort of tired. It’s the sort of tired that comes from a day spent in good company, a day that ended with so much accomplished.

We built things today. We fixed a few things we had built before, projects that we learned from and knew that we could improve. We planned a few new projects and finished a few projects started last fall.

We’ve spent the last two sunny days working outside. We have three rainy days ahead. The rain will water the grass seed we scattered today and the marigolds and pansies we planted. It will also give me a reason to work on recipe projects and sewing projects to give my tired body a few days of rest.

I’m lucky that I can spend these days with my mom. I know that. Today was a reminder of just how lucky I am. With any luck, we’ll have sunny day spent together outside soon.
