A Year of Gratitude – May 6, 2024

Today my gratitude was for the promise of beauty to come. My mom made sure to show me the budding bleeding hearts near one of our old oak trees today as we were working outside. I am always amazed by them.

They have just started to bloom. Most of the little hearts haven’t opened up enough to resemble hearts. But I know that they will. Those tiny pink flowers will open up and delight me with their unique shape and bold color. It won’t be long now.

I have to be patient because that will happen when the time is right, when the weather and conditions have provided what these plants need to create such a wonderful show for us in our garden. There’s nothing I can do now but wait for the day that they are at their peak and make the time to enjoy them in that moment.

I can choose to wish that I didn’t have to wait. Or, I can delight in the knowledge that I have something beautiful to look forward to. I’ll choose the latter. Neither choice will make that moment come any sooner, but I’ll certainly enjoy it more if I choose to see the gift it is to live in the hope of a lovely day to come.
