A Year of Gratitude – April 24, 2024
Today I was grateful for these bright and cheery flowers. They brightened my day in spite of our windy, rainy weather. They made me smile every time I walked by them.
While you would normally find these flowers planted outside, these are inside the farmhouse. Spring can be a fickle season here in New England and it certainly has been this year. Yesterday we were working outside in short sleeves with abundant sunshine. The next day, I needed my wool blend Cozy Cables Hat on my evening walk with Penny Lane.
Each spring, I plant a few early spring flowers inside the farmhouse. This is a time of year when I am desperate to work in the garden, to plant beautiful and delicious things in warm soil, but I know better. Early spring isn’t quite done with us yet even if it shows us a peek at late spring every so often.
I know better than to start planting only to have a stretch of days or nights that are hard on those tender plants. I’ll wait even though it is difficult to be patient. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy gardening on the windowsill.
No matter where I am gardening, I am grateful for nature and for the reminder that the gardening season will be here soon enough. Until then, I will wait, sometimes impatiently, and enjoy these pretty pansies and ranunculus inside the farmhouse where they will keep me company while I wait.
