A Year of Gratitude – April 23, 2024

I found my gratitude with a shovel today. My mom and I had a yard project to tackle and Mother Nature was kind enough to give us abundant sunshine and warm enough temperatures to work outside without a jacket.

After the long winter, a warm spring day when we can be outside in the sunshine feels like such a gift. Being able to spend the day with my mom while we work together makes it all the more so.

Of course, it was the first full day of outdoor work of the season, so my body was tired and sore by late afternoon. I’ll work my way into being able to spend long, full days outside working on projects without being so worn out at the end of it.

That takes time, more than it used to. Yet I am grateful that I am able to keep going, to continue improving this patch of earth the farmhouse rests on. I’ll keep on working it and improving it as long as I am able.

There’s something I love about a day when I end the day exhausted but can see the result of our hard work right in front of me. Today was that sort of day. With any luck, I’ll have another one soon. I look forward to it.
