A Year of Gratitude – April 17, 2024

I found my gratitude thanks to my daughter today. We were walking outside together when she pointed down at the ground just outside Penny Lane’s favorite window to bring my attention to this bright little flower. I had walked right past it without noticing it.

As soon as I saw it, I thought of my grandmother. She loved these little violas. As a child, I didn’t really know what these flowers were. I only knew them as the flower that she loved so much.

So, in the moment when I was standing next to my daughter as she pointed out this happy little flower at our feet, I was filled with gratitude for having been so lucky to have both of them in my life. I certainly felt grateful for both of them today.

It’s amazing how something as small as this little flower can remind me of how thankful I am. I love it when nature can stitch together my past and present in such a beautiful way. This little flower certainly did today.

I’m so glad that I didn’t miss this little bloom. It would have been such a shame to pass it by without noticing. It was such a colorful reminder to look around, to be present in every moment because there are little bits of unexpected beauty all around us. The trick is in remembering to take the time to notice them.
