A Year of Gratitude – January 29, 2024

I often find my gratitude in small, ordinary things. They’re the sort of things that would normally be overlooked because they aren’t fancy or notable. You have to look for them, pay attention to them. To me, their ordinary nature is what makes them special.

This morning, I found it in the fresh snow perched on top of the hasp to the barn door. The snowflakes seemed to have been carefully arranged, perfectly balanced on top of the hasp. It was amazing that they collected there and even moreso that they had remained.

I stood there for a moment and took them in while the chickens milled about nearby. They were making their happy little sounds, exploring the morning and the scratch I had left for them. It was amazing that I had the chance to see this beautiful snowy scene bathed in sunlight while on my morning round of chores.

It is these little moments that I love most. When my eye catches sight of them and my body stops long enough to take them in and hold them for just a moment, I am always grateful that I did. They’re fleeting, so catching one in the moment is such a gift.

I hope that you find a simple moment of gratitude today and that your day treats you gently.
