A Year of Gratitude – January 2, 2024

When it comes to gratitude, this photo captures the easiest sort of gratitude I know. I am grateful for Penny Lane, for each day I have been given to spend in her company.

While I have had the pleasure to live my life with many animals, she is the one I have the strongest bond with. She is also the one I have spent the most time with.

She came into my life during the homeschooling years. I was working at home and tending to the needs of my children and this old house I love. Those activities kept me at home which meant that I was with her nearly all the time.

During that time we spent together, we developed a rhythm, a way of knowing each other. That rhythm formed a connection that I have never had with another animal. I treasure our bond for I know that it is rare and suppose that I will most likely not be gifted one again.

So I choose to treat our closeness as a gift, as something precious that should be treasured and protected. I am grateful for it every day that I am allowed to be a part of it.

To give a relationship with a pet so much weight might seem silly to some, but they’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Penny Lane. I am quite certain that she could change their mind and warm their hearts.

Last year, I decided to start each morning by finding something to be grateful for. It was a powerful and uplifting way to begin my days.

I have learned from this practice that gratitude deepens when you share it out loud. It also multiplies in the loveliest way when others receive your gratitude and share theirs in return.

Join in my daily gratitude if you like. Share a photo of something you’re working on, something beautiful you discovered in your day, a photo of your pet, or leave a comment about what you are grateful for today. By sharing our gratitude with each other, we can greet the day ahead with an open heart and a grateful spirit.

There are grand possibilities ahead. I can’t wait to discover them together!
