A Year of Gratitude – January 13, 2024

My gratitude today is for a creative mind, busy hands, and time spent with my daughter. On days when the world might not make sense, creating something with my hands helps me to make sense of my place in it. Spending time with my daughter creating things is pure joy.

I am filled with pride and an equal measure of gratitude that my daughter has her own creative mind and busy hands. In fact, she knit this beautiful hat using a pattern I wrote. It is a product of our collective creativity.

Looking at the beautiful pieces she makes today reminds me of time we spent together when she was a little girl learning how to knit. I remember the first time her then little hands held knitting needles and yarn and learned to make the stitches one by one.

While that was many years ago, I hold that memory close to my heart and I hope that she does too. I also hope that she will keep being creative throughout her life and that she will find it to be as calming and meditative as I have.
