Farmhouse Favorites: Penny Lane’s Gentle Leader/Head Collar

Farmhouse Favorites: Penny Lane’s Gentle Leader/Head Collar

I so look forward to my walks with Penny Lane. We are fortunate to have a side road we can access through our property with a sidewalk for safe walking. It’s lined with trees and a few small streams, so our walks are filled with the sounds of songbirds chirping and the bright leaves that fall provides.

There’s one thing our walks don’t include: pulling on the leash. I couldn’t be happier about that. I like to think that Penny Lane appreciates it just as much as I do. Our walks are easy and there’s no struggling on either end of the leash, just us enjoying our time walking together.

We purchased this gentle leader/head collar seven years ago and I can’t imagine how many miles it has traveled with us. We walk nearly every day when the weather allows and it is still in like new condition. The webbing, snaps, and buckles have all been durable and sturdy and show no signs of wear.

This head collar allows Penny to have free range of movement. It isn’t a muzzle, although it does have a loop that goes around her nose. She can bark, pant, get a drink, or have a well deserved treat all while wearing it. It attaches to her collar for added security. I have a double ended leash that can be attached both to her collar and to this head collar, giving me two points of contact in case one of the snaps did fail.

Because this head collar attaches to her head, any corrections I make can be light as a feather. I can hold onto the leash loosely, giving a gentle movement in the direction I want her to go. She doesn’t pull back and I don’t have to be in a tug of war to choose our route. She also doesn’t have pressure put on her neck because while her collar is connected, we’re not putting any tension on it.

These gentle leaders/head collars are an amazing tool if you’d like to have hassle free walks with your pup. No matter their size or strength, I think that you’ll be amazed at how pleasant your walks can be.

If Penny Lane was asked to share her favorite things with you, this Halti Head Collar would definitely make her list.
