A Year of Gratitude – October 7, 2024

It was a rainy day here today from the moment I woke up at 6:00 until late afternoon. I knew as soon as I woke up that I would find gratitude in the garden thanks to raindrops and flower petals. I wasn’t outside long before I was proven right. Every petal and leaf in the garden was heavy with rain.

I find so much beauty in these moments. There’s something about the brevity of these moments. The water droplets can’t possibly stay put for long. They don’t.

It’s that impermanence that draws me to them. If I don’t pay attention in this moment, I will miss this beauty. I can’t choose to come back later because it will have disappeared.

So, I stood in the rain and looked at these beautiful flowers lacquered with rain. I saw their beauty, I took them in. I took a few photos before coming back inside.

By the time I had come inside and taken off my soaking wet gear, the sights I had marveled at were gone. The raindrops I found to be so beautiful had been replaced by others. I was happy that I had taken the time to appreciate them while they were there.
