A Year of Gratitude – October 3, 2024

I stumbled upon my gratitude early today. I was working in the garden when I looked down and saw this beautiful, delicate rose. It was almost underfoot yet I hadn’t seen it. It seemed too perfect to be real.

Look closely and you can see dew on the edges of the petals. Each droplet is so small and delicate. The color of the petals is so soft and lovely. I stood there for minutes just admiring how beautiful it was.

Then I got out my phone to try and capture a photo of it. Try as I might, I couldn’t seem to get the angle right. The flower looked flat, it lacked the depth that I was so taken by.

I wasn’t sure if it was the angle, the limitations of my phone, or the lighting. The sun was a bit harsh, almost too bright to capture the subtle shadows in the base of each petal.

Just around the time I was ready to give up, the sun passed behind a cloud. The light shifted just a bit and suddenly it was exactly the sort of photo I had been trying for. When I looked at it, I was so glad that I hadn’t given up, so thankful that I had kept trying so that I could share this with you.
