A Year of Gratitude – October 1, 2024
I found my gratitude at the breakfast table today. I had fed Penny Lane her breakfast and finished my morning round of chores. It was a crisp morning with sunshine to warm things up, the perfect sort of fall weather.
I went inside to make breakfast. I made a blueberry breakfast cake yesterday. I sliced myself a piece and warmed it up in the toaster oven before adding just a bit of butter. My morning was looking up.
As I poured my first cup of coffee, one of my children came down the back staircase into the kitchen. I could hear their feet on the stairs. As a mom, that is one of my favorite sounds. It’s the sound that always puts a smile on my face.
In minutes, I had company for breakfast. Penny Lane jumped up off the couch to come see who was joining me at the breakfast table. I sliced another piece of breakfast cake and popped it into the toaster oven.
What I thought would be a quiet, solitary breakfast had become a moment surrounded by people (and a dog) that I love dearly. The delicious breakfast cake was a nice bonus. It was such a wonderful way to begin the day.
