A Year of Gratitude – September 16, 2024

I found my gratitude in time spent with books and maps today. That might seem like an odd place to find gratitude, but I’ll do my best to explain.

I love bookstores and libraries. I always have. I remember fondly going to the library and local bookstore when I was a young girl. I have equally fond memories of taking my children to our town library when they were small.

There’s something so exciting about being surrounded by books.  They contain a world of ideas, new possibilities, and stories to captivate our imagination. When I am surrounded by books, I feel like the possibilities are endless and limitless.

So, spending part of my day in this space, a locally owned bookshop was such a lovely treat. This spot right here was filled with books and maps from places in our state of New Hampshire and from around the world. I couldn’t have been happier to spend part of my day there.

It will probably come as no surprise that I enjoyed browsing their extensive selection of cookbooks. The section was so large I could barely fit it in a photo to share with you. Oh, I could have spent days there browsing through those cookbooks.

I brought a few books home with me. Just like visiting the library, I love bringing home a new book filled with those possibilities I mentioned. It seems so hopeful to do so, to bring something into your home that is filled with new knowledge and ideas.

I’m still learning and still seeking new information. I’m curious and there are so many things that I still want to read about. I guess, in a way, I was grateful for that curiosity today as much as I was happy to be in a good bookstore.

If you’re ever in Concord, NH, stop in at Gibson’s Bookstore. It’s such an inviting space and you’ll be as delighted as I was at their cookbook selection.
