A Year of Gratitude – November 24, 2024

I found my gratitude with my knitting needles in hand today. After a long day, I settled in on the couch under a blanket with my knitting in hand and Penny Lane to keep me company.

As soon as I sat down, I felt relaxed. With each stitch that passed through my fingers, it felt like a bit of the day’s worries and cares were carried away with it. I could feel my breathing slow down, my shoulders relax, as I watched the stitches move from one needle to the other.

I watched as Penny Lane drifted in and out of sleep. She was cozy on her pink pillow, covered by her fluffy blanket. The pellet stove was running, the fire keeping us warm and helping the room to feel like the coziest spot.

It is these quiet moments that fill me with gratitude lately. Perhaps it is my age, maybe it is just me accepting myself as a person who has always preferred these quiet moments. I have always liked an evening that looks just like this one.

I know that this might seem boring to some, but it’s just right for me. I prefer to think of it as a moment when I was fully at ease. There’s a feeling of deep contentment when I can relax and settle in deeply to a peaceful feeling of being enough. Tonight, I did that and I was mindful of how lucky I was to feel that way, even for a moment.
