A Year of Gratitude – November 17, 2024

I found my gratitude in the sunshine this morning. Penny Lane and I were out on a long walk. We were moving along, keeping pace with each other when I looked down and saw our shadows.

The bright sun made a long shadow for me and Penny’s blended in with mine. I chuckled at the sight of Penny, who is my shadow every day, walking with my shadow. Penny just looked at me, puzzled.

I have lived with many dogs over the years, but none of them wanted so much to be my shadow. Penny follows me from room to room, never wanting to be far from where I am. She has a bed or soft spot in each room and just moves her nap to whatever room I am in from the time she wakes up in the morning until we go to bed at night.

I’ve spent so many hours with her in my shadow. I will never be lonely as long as Penny Lane is living in the farmhouse. She simply won’t allow it. I’m always thankful to know that she is nearby whether we’re walking in the sunshine or snuggled in together on the couch. It’s just nice to be in her company.
