A Year of Gratitude – October 8, 2024
I found my gratitude in sunshine and being surrounded by the beautiful sights of fall today. I had an errand to run that took me to a nearby farm. For as long as I have lived here, this shop has been one of my favorite local places.
They offer locally grown and made food and produce. They grow beautiful flowers, keep their own chickens for fresh eggs, and have delicious produce year-round. We’re so lucky to have them nearby.
Today, I stopped by and just had to wander amongst the pumpkins, gourds, and other fall items. I picked up a few ears of strawberry corn for the farmhouse, a little pumpkin or two, and just couldn’t decide on what sort of heirloom fancy pumpkin to bring home for the dining room table.
I decided to come back next week to make that decision. That gives me another reason to stop by and walk in the greenhouse through these aisles of beautiful pumpkins, straw bales, and cornstalks.
Today, I came home with local apples, end of the season fresh corn, a hunk of cheddar from Vermont, a delicious blueberry rooibos tea kombucha, and a big, crisp head of Romaine lettuce just begging to be turned into a delicious salad.
As I left, I counted myself lucky to live near this place. Then I went home, sliced myself an apple and a bit of cheddar, and made plans for a grand salad for dinner. Penny Lane came to get her share of the apple and cheddar, which she loved, and we sat in the sunshine as it streamed in the window. It was such a beautiful day and I’m glad that I was able to spend a few minutes surrounded by such pretty reminders of this glorious season and that I had a delicious snack and dinner because of it.
