A Year of Gratitude – October 26, 2024
I found my gratitude with a rake in my hand today. It’s leaf season here on the farm and we have so many grand old trees that you can watch the leaves rain down from limb to the ground below. They pile up so quickly that you couldn’t keep up with removing them all even if we wanted to.
We don’t collect them all, but my mom and I were raking some of them away from our plants that are still in bloom. We want to be able to enjoy what few flowers we have left and give the wildlife looking for bright blooms a chance to find them.
I looked down on this spot and saw the space where fall and summer meet. We enjoyed these colorful yellow and white blooms all summer long. Now they are in their final days as fall takes hold.
Right now, they are coexisting in the same space and time. As I stood there in the warm sunshine, I saw the magic in the combination. A transition from one thing to another can be difficult, but it can also be beautiful. Today, I only saw beauty.
