A Year of Gratitude – October 20, 2024
I found my gratitude at the dinner table tonight. It had been such a busy day, full of tasks that needed to be accomplished. As usual, many of them took far longer than anticipated and the day was nonstop from start to finish.
I was rushing my way through preparing dinner. I had two cast iron skillets going on the stovetop and two trays of vegetables roasting in the oven. My daughter had a third pan to manage, and Penny Lane was walking around our feet hoping that something delicious might drop to the floor.
She knows me well. I’m prone to dropping or flicking something from the cutting board to the floor by accident. When I am in a rush to get dinner on the table, that becomes a more likely possibility.
When dinner was ready, we gathered in the kitchen to build our plates before walking them into the dining room. I sat down, a bit spent from the day and the hustle to get dinner on the table.
Then I took a deep breath and realized that the day’s chores were finished other than the dirty dishes waiting for us after dinner. It was time to let the day slip away and enjoy the moment at hand.
With my family gathered at the table, it was time to enjoy the company and the food on our plates. It was the best moment of a very busy day.
