A Year of Gratitude – September 30, 2024
I opened the door from the mudroom to go outside early today. It was barely after 6:00am and the sky was bright and blue, so bright that I had to squint a bit at the brightness. I found my gratitude a few steps away.
It was right in front of the chicken coop, near the front of the kitchen garden. It wasn’t anything fancy or expensive. It was a marigold that had been blooming all summer long.
While I appreciate fancier flowers and showier blooms, there’s something about a marigold that I love. It’s useful and beautiful in its own way. I smiled looking down at it, thinking about how many blooms it has provided for us during the summer.
The simplest things in my day can give me a reason for gratitude, but only if I choose to let them. I have to decide that those small, simple things are worthy of gratitude. This bright and sunny marigold certainly was today.
