A Year of Gratitude – September 23, 2024
I found my gratitude in being surrounded by memories today. I was spending a bit of time early in the morning in the studio. I had photos of new handmade goods to take and a day with enough sunshine to take them.
That alone would give me a reason to be thankful. It’s been dreary here for days now and a bit of sunshine was just what I needed to begin my day in a happy way. Of course, we needed the rain, so I wasn’t sorry about a few days of gentle rain, simply happy to see the sun return to our sky.
As I was setting up each piece, I chose a few pieces from the cabinet in the dining room that holds a few of my favorite things. The cabinet was my childhood desk and hutch. It is nearly 50 years old now and has been used for a lot of purposes over the years. It sits in the dining room now and holds sentimental treasures.
I use a lot of those treasures in photos that I share with you. Today, I used these handmade wooden boxes that my parents made years ago. I added a rolling pin I bought at a local antique shop. I love the red stripes on the handles. Then I added this green bowl I purchased at a local consignment shop and added a few fresh eggs from our hens.
To round things out, I added my little white swirled teapot. I purchased it more than 20 years ago on a trip I took with my Mom and daughter when she was a toddler. We stopped at a tearoom that was owned by a dear family friend. That teapot came from their shop at the tearoom. Every time I look at it, I think fondly of that trip and of all the memories we made together.
As I stepped back to take the photo, I looked at these objects and saw the memories behind them. For me, it made the photo come alive. It also gave me a reason to be filled with joy at the thought of those lovely memories. It’s really no wonder that I fill the farmhouse with things that remind me of such warm memories. It’s so nice to be reminded of them.
