A Year of Gratitude – August 16, 2024
I found my gratitude in good company and a beautiful evening tonight. I spent the evening with my children. That gives me something easy to be grateful for. It almost feels like cheating to look for gratitude there because I always find it.
We were out for a few hours this evening. We wandered around in nearby Portsmouth and enjoyed a lovely evening. There was a gentle breeze blowing in from the water and it was just one of those nights that I felt so lucky to be walking around the brick streets among people doing the very same.
We ambled around, enjoying the moment. We listened when the clock tower struck on the hour, announcing to us what time it was. We heard a bagpiper playing in the distance. It was lively and wonderful.
While I loved all of those aspects, what I enjoyed most was the company. People often speak about how quickly your children grow up. They’re right about that. I think fondly of the time when they were small. That time does pass by in a blink.
I also love spending time with them now. They have such interesting points of view, such fascinating topics to talk about. I’ll always love the children they were when they were small but I’ll cherish this time spent with them now. It feels so special to be in their presence, to be able to be a part of their lives whether we are walking about through a local downtown or snuggling up on the couch with Penny Lane at home.
We didn’t stay out too long. Penny Lane was waiting for us at home and the animals needed to be put in for the evening. On a Friday night, my favorite place to be is home at the farmhouse. While it was nice to be out, it was also lovely to return home.
