A Year of Gratitude – May 31, 2024
My gratitude was unfurled in an opening poppy bloom today. Once our poppies set buds, I become filled with joyful anticipation as we wait for those buds to open up and show us the papery petals held inside.
This bloom is the first to begin opening up. It greeted me when I went outside to do my morning round of farm chores this morning. I couldn’t wait to take a closer look. So, I put down my buckets and feed and walked carefully through the other perennials in this bed. I stood over the bloom and marveled at the beautiful coral color.
This poppy has a dark purple center that hasn’t shown itself yet. I can’t wait for these inner petals to open up so that I can see the dark purple waiting inside. I’ll wait because the sight of them is certainly worth my patience.
Poppies are so delicate and beautiful. They have a short season, but they are dazzling while they last. I love to watch them sway in the breeze on their tall stems. I’ll be ready to see this bloom fully open when I start my morning round of chores tomorrow. When it is, I’ll have a photo of it in all its glory ready to share with you!
