A Year of Gratitude – May 30, 2024

I found my moment of gratitude sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch tonight. The breeze was light and the temperature had cooled off a bit. With every breeze, the scent of the lilac blooms wafted over me.

I look forward to our lilacs being in bloom for so many reasons. First, the scent is just wonderful. I love to be out in the gardens and smell that sweet scent when it floats by on the breeze. Secondly, lilacs have always been a favorite of my daughter’s, so I am always happy to see their blooms knowing that they will make a smile come across her face.

So, as I sat on the front porch tonight, smelling that sweet scent, I felt a smile come across my face. It was partly because of these pretty blooms, but mostly at the thought of her and how much she loves them. My mom planted this lilac at the end of our front porch years ago and it has flourished.  When it is in bloom, I can see the flowers when I am settled in at the sewing machine and smell that fragrance through the open window.

So, in the moment when a beautiful flower, its sweet scent, and the thought of both my daughter and my mom combined, I was filled to the brim with gratitude.
