A Year of Gratitude – May 21, 2024

I shared my gratitude for the buds on this Korean Spice Viburnum with you last week. I was delighted to see today that those buds had begun to open up into the delicate little flowers I had been waiting for.

Not only are these blooms beautiful, but they have a fresh, light scent that seems to float on the breeze in the garden bed near it. It really does brighten up this garden bed with its flowers and scent.

This plant doesn’t hold these tiny blooms long. Sadly, they will fall to the ground, making a carpet of tiny white and pink blooms. Then I’ll just have to wait until next year when they’ll reappear.

The garden seems to remind me daily that life and beauty are fragile and finite. You have to appreciate its beauty right now because it just might be gone tomorrow. These flowers were my reminder today to hold the people I treasure close, to make sure that I put in the effort so that they know how dear they are to me. The moments I spend with them are precious and I will treat them that way.

I will be present where I am, with the people I am with. I want to show them how much they mean to me instead of just telling them. Words aren’t always easy, but they require so much less effort than actions. It’s the actions people take to show you how much they value you that stay with you forever. Those are the kind of actions I want to take.

I’m grateful that I was reminded of how important that is to me. I can’t wait to see these flowers in full bloom and share them with you.
