A Year of Gratitude – April 15, 2024
My gratitude was easy to find today. It was right outside the mudroom door. I stepped outside for my morning round of chores and discovered that the first two daffodils of the season had opened up.
While I look forward to all of the flowers in our garden coming into season, there’s something extra special about these first blooms. After the long desolate winter, to see bright colors standing tall on leggy green stems just seems to breathe hope and joy into my heart and soul.
This spot was covered with nearly a foot of heavy snow just two weeks ago. Seeing this bright yellow daffodil this morning was such a welcome sight. It means that the hyacinth and tulips won’t be far behind. Soon, it will be green everywhere, a sight that fills me with hope for the upcoming growing season.
When rain started to fall, I headed outside with my phone in hand, hoping to capture a photo of these gorgeous yellow petals with a raindrop or two perched on top. I’m not sure why, but I love to capture raindrops on leaves and flower petals. There’s something about the combination that just captivates me.
Yes, I got wet standing out in the rain. Yes, Penny Lane stood up on her hind legs in the window, watching me perched over this daffodil. I’m sure that she wondered what I was doing.
Oh, how I have longed for spring’s arrival. I’m so glad that it seems to have finally come to stay, that the ground has warmed enough to allow flowers and leaves to emerge and reach for the sunshine. Hello, spring. Welcome home.
