A Year of Gratitude – April 10, 2024
It’s easy for me to find gratitude for a flower. This walking iris in bloom at my mom’s treated us to a beautiful bloom today. I was indeed grateful for having seen it.
In the case of this plant, I can count myself thankful because the blooms last a single day. If you don’t stop to appreciate them, to really take in their beauty, they’re gone. One single day is all the time you have to find the time to stop and look at them.
There’s a good lesson there. Sure, most things in life last longer than a day. You can get to them tomorrow. You can decide that you just don’t have time to give them.
They might be here tomorrow. But today will be gone. Whatever magic this specific day had for you is only here for a day. You have to make time for it now, not tomorrow.
Whatever it is that matters to you, be it a flower in bloom, a person you love, or something you do that makes your heart and soul happy, give it part of your day today. Even if today is busy and you have a list of tasks that need your attention, make time for those things that truly matter to you.
You might find yourself exhausted by the extra effort at the end of your busy day, but you won’t be sorry that you made time for them. I never am. I made time for a few today and my heart is happy that I did in this same way that I am glad to have seen this flower that had but one day to delight the world with its beauty.
I am so lucky to have seen it. I’m fortunate to have been given this day to share what I could with the people around me, to give them my time and attention. I’m so grateful that they returned the favor and gave me theirs. What a gift it was.
