A Year of Gratitude – February 8, 2024
I found my gratitude in a cookie this afternoon. That might seem like an odd place to find gratitude, but it was a very good cookie and it was baked for someone I love. That made it the perfect place for me to find a bit of gratitude.
While a chocolate chip cookie is somewhat ordinary, it’s always special to make something for someone you love. It really doesn’t matter what it is. It only matters that you choose to make it for someone else, that you see that they could use a little something to brighten their day.
This cookie did just that. It helped to turn a difficult day into a slightly better one. It reminded someone that I love them very much, that I will make time for them even when my schedule is busy. They didn’t really need the reminder, but a warm cookie made for you by someone who just wants to make your day a little better is the very best sort of cookie, the nicest kind of reminder.
In some small way, those warm cookies filled me and them with gratitude. I felt good about my ability to do something productive that improved their day. They were happy that I had made them cookies both for the delicious cookies and all the warm reasons I did that were baked right inside of them.
So, my gratitude today was baked up into a cookie. I was grateful that I had people in my life who I love and care for enough to want to make them. I am glad that I did make them and that I saw a smile come across the face of the person I made them for. It made a smile come across mine to see it.
I hope that your day included a moment of joy and beauty and that it treated you gently.
