A Year of Gratitude – January 27, 2024
My gratitude found me by way of Penny Lane this morning. We were snuggled up on the couch watching the world come awake outside the windows in the old parlor room.
As I drank my coffee and planned out my knitting work for the morning, she settled in for a nap, closed her eyes, and drifted off to a peaceful sleep. She is breathing rhythmically while I sit here in the quiet of the farmhouse.
I enjoy the time before my family is awake. While I am not a morning person, the quiet of the morning when it is just me and Penny can be so calming. It’s a good time for me to process my thoughts, to take in the realities of my day, and to ready myself for what lies ahead.
Sometimes, it is just a nice block of time to do nothing but be aware in myself and my surroundings. This morning was one of those times. I had knitting pattern work planned but decided to just be here, to take a breath and enjoy this moment. I listened to Penny breathe and watched the sunlight shift in the sky until it bathed her and this corner of the farmhouse in light.
My knitting and the day will be waiting for me when this moment passes. But I need to remind myself that our moments are fleeting, they must be enjoyed in their time, not ours. So I plan to enjoy this one. Phone down, work set aside for a few moments, cup of warm coffee in hand, sleeping dog on my feet. I know that I will be glad that I chose not to miss it.
I hope that you find gratitude today and that your day treats you gently.
